Exhaust gasket replace with silicone?

I have bought a second hand slip-on exhaust. The pipe that connects to the end pipe is slightly out of shape and the gasket does not fit in correctly. When trying to fit the exhaust the gasket gets pushed too far down the inside and does not sit correctly. Would if be possible to use a silicone sealant instead of the gasket? I have seen a sealant in Halfords that is heat resistant. Would this be ok?

yes

If you look at the spec on normal bathroom silicone sealant it's temp resistant to ~250 c ISTR. I've used it on exhaust joints without a problem.

gasket

I`ve used instant gasket which is high temp silicone,

if the gap is too big try foil as well.
