cb500 no reserve.

Hi all. I have a 1997 cb500 which runs on reserve tank whichever way the petrol tap is turned, apart from off which is off. I replaced the tap for a second hand one and it's doing the same thing. Is this a common fault on these bikes or have I just got unlucky. It's not causing any problems, I just need to keep my eye on the mileage. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi Entus

If your tap and the second hand tap do not have the brass tube fitted, which is the fuel on tube then they will both be the same,so i think this will be the reason? the brass tube should also have a tube filter over the top of it.If the filter only is fitted and no brass tube, you again will only have reserve like you say,as the brass tube is the fuel on part of your tap.  Good Luck

Cheers kcmc

The tap is complete as per the pic. Think it might be time to take it apart and see what's going on. Thanks for the reply.

reserve tank.

What makes you think it's always on reserve?? Have you run out of fuel when it was in the ON position??

Never ran out of fuel but I can run the bike until it's nearly empty with the tap in the on position.

Ha ha.

Think I've figured it out. got hold of an owners manual. Reserve is only just over half a gallon and I don't think I've ever ran it that low. Was expecting a bit more from reserve. Looks like rider error. Oops. The old tap was a bit stiff though so replacing it was probably for the best. Cheers for replies chaps.
