Video: Ride to Work Day - More time, more fun!

This year Ride to Work Day is on Monday June 18, and we're urging everyone to get their bikes out of the garage, don their kit and ride to work to show the nation that two wheels are a great way to commute. There are special events planned across the UK to encourage you to ride the bike to work, as if...

Winter Riding

Winter is a problem here. While I have ridden a small dual-sport (Yamaha TW200) in the snow without studs, this was on back roads without much traffic or road salt. When the cagers are sliding around like idiots, being on a moto is a bad thing. And all the salt they put down on the roads corrodes everything.

Every day bar snow.

Snow is the only time I don't ride, just doesn't make sense.

Ride to work is a nice initiative. But if people who already own bikes aren't riding into work every day, then I doubt it will change.. Right until it becomes an economic necessity.

Every day

But not to save money purely to save time.

If I wanted to save money I would drive a modern car as they seem so much better on fuel than virtually all motorcycles at the moment.

Why the motorcycle industry doesn't pull its finger out I don't know, there have been hybrid bikes around for at least 10 years now even a diesel one someone made in the USA, but to date you can't buy a hybrid motorcycle from any of the main manufacturers and the fuel consumption of bikes today is pretty dismal, especially when you have a car that can carry 5 people and weighs a hell of a lot still able to produce 70 to the gallon, and with porsch bringing out their new sports car able to do over 90 to the gallon, it definately has nothing to do with fuel consumption as to why anyone should ride a motorcycle.

Come-on Bike manufactuers - I ride a VFR800, or custom bandit.

But going to work each day even with dartford tolls and parking is still cheaper on fuel mileage & running costs by CAR
--- my car get 65+ to a gallon (VW  Up!) --- my bike 42mpg,
--- car service £200 at 12000 miles, bike £250 every 4000 miles,
--- tyres 16k plus on car - set of 4 £200, Motorbike £250 a pair every 6k miles,,,
--- and don't get started on disc pads, chain oil, chain maintenance
--- and all the safety gear you gotta wear these days in case some knob in a tin can half a sleep doesn't spot you

I have stopped using my bike becuase of the costs and unless motorbike manufacturers wake up to bloody reality --- they are probably going to loose another biker - me --- not cause I want to give it up (I would rather loose a bullock) --- but because its becoming financially unjustifiable.

"jimbo8098 says Nothing :( Nothing in Scotland :("

@draper12807 the girl was actually riding a Yamaha XJ6 ABS and the guy was on a Honda Vision 110 scooter

"draper12807says I'd rather take the whipping than be seen riding a scooter in full leathers whilst my girlfriend rides what looks like a MV Agusta Brutale"
