Jorge Lorenzo signs new two-year deal with Yamaha

Jorge Lorenzo has crushed intense speculation that he would switch to Honda next season to replace Casey Stoner by signing a new two-year deal to remain with Yamaha’s factory squad. The Spaniard has agreed a new deal after his management repeatedly claimed there had been no big money approach from HRC. Lorenzo’s new deal will serve as a massive relief to Yamaha...

good news

let's face it, Lorenzo was in the box seat and couldn't really make a bad decision.  no doubt Yamaha have been rummaging down the back of the sofa for any remaining loose change to ensure that the financial package on offer to Lorenzo would prevent a defection to Honda.  he appears to be happy and in a good place with his career at the moment, so why change as he's on competitive machinery, illustrated by the fact he's currently leading the championship.

having said that, i'm sure he would have been a success at Honda (despite the current penchant for elbowz' anti-Honda rhetoric).  he's a class act and will be the rider to beat in 2013.  that'll be quite a challenge for his new team-mate ...

No brainer, as anticipated

Yamaha wanted George above all else and George wanted them equally. Renewed marriage vows and well done by  all within the team.

Thats it then. George and Casey free to race without distractions other than the usual race weekend issues.

Where else?

Based upon current and recent results / performance, going anywhere else woould surely have been a detrimental move.

The Yamaha is a superb handling bike and Lorenzo looks so comfortable on it. The only thing he feels it lacks is corner exit and maybe top end.

With the former, it's always difficult to know whether that is down to the bike, the rider's performance out of corners or comparison to another rider on another bike and the way they exit corners, which is a difficult thing to compare - no constant from which to measure.

They have no chatter, they don't chew their tyres, still have possibly the best electronics package and he is completely settled in the team - just couldn't see any reason for him to want to go to Honda who have what to offer over that? Money?  -  wrong reason.

good news

Good news, Lorenzo put pen to paper, they're a great package. The only thing that's missing for Yamaha to ensure Lorenzo is champion next year, is for Honda to change the rules, like they always do, and put Marquez and Bradl on the two factory Honda's. Marquez, good as he is, will spend the first half of the season chucking it at the barriers, and Bradl's not ready.  Honda's only chance, for a quick fix, is to put Rossi back on board for a year, and start selling more Honda's into the bargain

yam again

Great to hear Lorenzo is staying with Yamaha, they are a team who appreciate what they have in Lorenzo and treat him accordingly. It must be the right decision made for the right reasons, great to hear.

What is going on with this forum, looking at the posts on this subject it looks like the comments are from grown ups and decent people, not the usual MCN hot air and insults!

Unlikely as Rossi is about to put pen to paper with Ducati to show a similar level of loyalty to his factory as JL has done.

The MCN FREEDOM FiGHTERS (bennyhedgehog and myself) plus multiple secret agents waged a brutal campaign against the dickheads in the name of Fairness. It got bloody and we showed no mercy.

Speak your mind have your say , safe in the knowledge the ' freedom fighters' are lurking in the back ground for your protection. Trolls be afraid, very afraid.

Do you agree with the night of the long knifes for Pedrosa?

Cant see why they would want to offload him, he's still young enough and with better luck has a title in him. His records nowhere near as bad as people make out.

And whats wrong with two Spaniards in the team? Marquez could learn alot from him when not if the rookie rule goes...........

If Rossi is going stay at Ducati, then he must feel like they are turning a corner and are likely to get the Duke to be competitive. That's got to be good news, as the tighter it is at the top, the better the racing.

Dani is quality and he'll be replaced one day as many before have been.

He's consistently been the fastest 'No2' in any team in recent times that i can recall. His 'prob' regarding a title has been Vale, JL and Stoner. Unforetunately for Dani, a formidable trio in any era.

MM and Dani in the same team would work imo.
