Poll: What would stop you breaking speed limits?

New government proposals recommend increasing fixed penalties for speeding from £60 to £90. Will this reduce the frequency you break the speed limit? And if not, what would? Don't forget to add your comment below. pollcomment

I'm all for speed limits in built up areas and don't break them especially around schools, houses playgrounds etc. However open A/B roads are fair game. I think they should remove national speed limits and let common sense take over. Increase the number of Po Po on patrol to make sure that no one is exceeding the "safe to do so" speeds. If you're doing 100+ approaching a junction with no regard for who might be pulling out then shame on you. People need to be able to take responsibility for their actions and the concequences but lets not remove common sense from the equation. For these people who think the Gov knows best...just take a look at why speed limits were originally introduced and the very small number, around 1.6%, of accidents that speed is the contributing factor.

The thing that has really put a crimp in my style here in the western US is all the deer running around. I once hit one in an old Ford station wagonn I bought from my uncle. The thing was a behemoth but hitting a doe at 60 did unbeleivable damage to the car. I have talked to a number of guys who thought nothing about going well over 100 o thier bikes on roads through the mountains or the desert. I can just imagine what would happen if they hit a deer!
