Video: Fastest recorded motorcycle lap of the Nurburgring

Part-time hotel worker Andy Carlile recently set the fastest ever recorded bike lap of the fearsome German circuit on his standard-engined Yamaha R1 - by accident.

Impressive.  I notice there don't really seem to be any real offs and the graffiti.  At least the guard rails don't have exposed posts.

Doubters

I have stayed at slidersguesthouse.com a few times, Bren and Andy are the most helpful and enthusiastic hosts if you're into fast bikes. My akro spring holed my sump first time there, Andy took it away in the morning, was on the ring at 5 for opening, he was a legend before all this press coverage.

Having met him a few times, ridden with, ate with and got very drunk with, he doesn't bullshit like some. Quiet unassuming and very serious about his bikes.

.Accidental record maybe the wrong word, unintentional may suit better.

The guy is so effortlessly fast he makes me sick!

He has done his research and is a specialist there, you dont get that quick without practice, and like anyone else who rides there enough, will have the x rays to prove it.

Not for faint hearted, or keyboard warriors!

AWESOME !!!

Wowwwww ! What a lap !!! This guy is an amazing rider - I reckon he'd have done the lap 7 or 8 seconds faster if he wasn't held up in a few places. I hope he achieves his ambition of doing the TT ! And on that subject, I'd love to see McGuinness do the Nurburgring - now that would be truly AWESOME !

epic success !

..amazing stuff - a guy who can do 150mph....whilst cranked over and into a bend ! - makes a 200mph straightliner seem like a Sunday stroll ...hats off to a spectacular ride !

Crazy fast!!

You can tell that that has taken some serious commitment to learn the speeds at which you can ride around there.  Scary corner entry speeds, tipping in before you can see the corner.  Awesome.

The reason that the speedo does not match the actions of the video, is most likely because the displayed speedo is based on GPS data, which often lags slightly behind, especially when it has a poor signal (ie. close to trees etc.).

neat

thats some going and could have lost 10-20 seconds due to others backing him up through some bends. Been round the circuit once in a car and the passengers refused to ever get into a car on track with me again...that was with a 9.28min lap. A few very quick biker mates have done it in sub 9 mins and on the road they disappear on me so this guy is seriously quick and must virtually have no life but to learn the circuit.
