Assen MotoGP: Stoner storms to pole

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner will start tomorrow's MotoGP race from pole position after a last minute fast lap bumped team-mate Dani Pedrosa off the top spot. It looked as though Pedrosa would claim pole after setting the fastest lap in the opening minutes of the session before rain started to fall. The rain only lasted a few minutes before the riders...

Funny isn't it

when he tucks his bottom lip in and just gets the fk on with it, it turns out the tyres aren't so bad after all...

Someone's crying, Mario

But it ain't the Aussies.

"But when Barbera shut off he just cruised around three corners and I had to follow him. He is an idiot. This guy is an arse.

"It definitely cost me the front row. I’m on the second row and it makes no difference now but I could have been on the front row. The aim is to be up there in the race but there is a big gap that shouldn’t have been there.

"I said to the guys before I went out that I could do a 33 but I did a 34.4 because I was riding around for five corners behind some idiot. But he does that all the time."

The soft tyres seem to work well for them all for a few laps... shame it's the hard he's trying to get the bike to work with... you know, the ones that JL will be on... the ones Rossi can't get on with.

It was the 1st time they'd tried the soft tyres all weekend which I think is why they were so surprised when they went so fast... & why Stoner looked so relieved & happy after the session.

Nostro - "But it does seem on the surface Stoner has shot himself in the foot a bit with his slow tyres comment, as he destroyed the pole record by a second."

This hopefully also explains your doubts.

Get real you guy's. The softs are now used as a qualifier as for a few laps only they can be ridden very hard. Stoner has always favoured the Bridgestone hards come race day and is trying very hard to cure the Hondas chatter through using the hards. The softs can't last the distance when he rides the bike as hard as he can, the chatter comes with the hards when he rides the bike as hard as he can. Until the chatter problem is solved it will be damage limitation in all the races except when conditions get hotter and he then might be able to ring it's neck for a bit longer, stretch out a bit of a lead and then hang on like he was doing earlier in the season. Unfortunately the weather will be against him doing that today unless there is a break in the clouds for a couple of hours.
