Assen MotoGP: Stoner storms to pole

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner will start tomorrow's MotoGP race from pole position after a last minute fast lap bumped team-mate Dani Pedrosa off the top spot. It looked as though Pedrosa would claim pole after setting the fastest lap in the opening minutes of the session before rain started to fall. The rain only lasted a few minutes before the riders...

Casey was out on the softs this morning.  Looks like he couldn't get the hards to work.  Jorge and Dovi were out on the hards and were fast!

I'm usually confident that he can pull something out of the bag, but I think this weekend is going to be too tough.  Jorge and Dovi are as just fast on the hards as he is on the softs.  Ben and Cal are just as fast on the softs, but will be probably be more economical on them while Dani has been working on the soft tyre set up all weekend.

Meanwhile, Casey has spent a total of 20 minutes working on a soft-tyre setup (his fault, of course).  Very very tough race.

I backed you up on that one, wosi

Dani was wise to slow down and force Casey to the front with a slow lap (about 10 to go, I think), but I still think Casey would have done better to just hold his pace at the front instead of trying to check out so early.

Massive win.
