Helmet cam

Just bought a tiny camera with an 8GB memory card to stick to/in my helmet.

Anyone else have a helmet camera and if so what model and any comments?

be careful where you put it. If you consider the effects in a crash it concentrates the energy into a small area rather than the larger area if you were to just have the pavement hitting your hat.

I'd say as low down at the side as is possible is best.

My last camera went missing, I'm just awaiting a new memory card for the new one so I can use it. I'll be putting it on the handlebars as I bought a quiet helmet for a reason and don't want the extra noise.

isn't the problem. It's that if you hit a pavement you'll expose the helmet to an impact area say the size of your palm. If you have a camera there it'll hit the pavement first and concentrate all the energy of the impact into a smaller area - this will mean it's absorbed by less of the polystyrene in the helmet and has more chance of the energy of the impact getting through to you.

The noise is because a quiet helmet is made using careful consideration of aerodynamics to create smooth flow around the hat. You interrupt that with a camera, a bluetooth headset or otherwise and it'll create turbulent flow which in turn creates a lot of noise just by your ear.

Which camera did you buy? I've got a Drift HD170 but due to the lack of a memory card (on its way!) I've jet to try it on the bike. Anyone thinking of buying this beware the bike mounting kit is probably too small for motorcycle handlebars.

Mini DV - its on the inside of my helmet and if it was on the outside it would be powder before it compromised the integrity of the helmet.
