Assen MotoGP: Stoner eases to victory

Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner has taken his first victory since announcing his retirement ahead of team-mate Dani Pedrosa. It's the first Honda victory at Assen since Nicky Hayden in 2006. Stoner now leads the championship along with Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo failed to finish the race after he was taken out by Alvaro Bautista at the first corner as the Gresini...

BRILL...

What a stomping meeting,3 great race`s with moto3 just winning out for the gold medal. Shame about Jorge, but it seem`s to happen every year, last year it was Jerez I believe. And as for Ducati well...maybe they should pay Stoner a shed load of money, during the off season,to come and sort the bugger out for `em.    Mind you, he`d probably say the same as me..."Get 2 young rider`s". There`d be a queue of `em,no worries mate.

Benny H was right

Dovi certainly put himself in the Factory Yamaha focus today. Ben used to own him but not anymore.

As ever Ducati need to do something. Fire their overpaid pilots to free up some cash for development.

Old Bob got it right years back.

Great Races

Bad race for Jorge - but great for the championship.

Did anyone else think that Rossi quit after the satellite Ducati passed him?

masterclass

so let pedro break the tow then claw him back, shame jorge was taken out tho but it is racing, bautista was wrong and admitted it so all well, good rides by dovi and cal again, spies still looked uncomfy but good results all the same.

stoner retiring will be a sad day tho for any real race fan, he was awsum again today.

Acanada...

"I do think stoner owes bridgestone an apology though."

What, you think he's lying when he says how bad they are?... you think he deliberately went slowly in all the practice sessions trying the harder tyre that would probably have been the only one with the longevity for a prolonged attack if JL had been there? You obviously think that if JL hadn't been skittled by Bautista doing a Rossi he'd still have had no impact on the race or Stoner's tyre management... & you think after today's race Rossi doesn't agree with him?

Ultimately there were only 2 aliens in to today... it was Honda v Honda on the same tyres & in that battle Stoner's going to win... mostly.

Without that bad mistake from Bautista Lorenzo would have won again and the podium would have looked no different. Both Stoner and Pedrosa quoting energy and tiredness in their post race interviews on the BBC. Sounds like a metaphor to me, but for what I wonder, tyres maybe. Have they had their knuckles rapped by HRC & Dorna ?

a dominant display by the Repsol boys - have they got their mojo back now?  it would have been interesting to see if Lorenzo could have mixed it with them had Bautista not tried that barnpot manoevre.  a justifiable penalty of a back of the grid start at the Sachsenring - and thank goodness we don't have elbowz in Race Direction.

with Spies so far off the pace of the front two, he couldn't even do the team a favour by taking points off Stoner and Pedrosa - a pretty mediocre ride I'm afraid, and done yet again by Dovi.  with Spies staring at the bike after crossing the line, and when pulling into the garage, i'm waiting to hear the excuses.  a lucky 4th perhaps, with Lorenzo and Bradl's DNFs, and Cal's mix-up in the first corner melee.

anyway, the Moto3 race knocked it into a cocked hat.  at least we can rely on the youngsters for some close racing.

Obviously the soft rear tyre isn't that bad for the honda, contrary to what stoner has said maybe an engineer had a word in his shell like ear....

Bautista killed it

Agree with 'parris' there. Obviously AB didn't mean it, JL didn't deserve it and the fans didn't want it. But that's racing.

Controlled ride from Casey without the obvious threat. Good effort from Dani but not quite good enough as usual. Talking of Dani 'huge'. He IS an alien. He's the slowest of a f'kin quick trio but where's the rest of the field? And stop spouting s-t about Vae ffs.

Anyway, shame for Stefan, shame for Cal, a decent effort from Ben. As for Vale, less said the better?
