Cortese criticised for Kent collision in Moto3 thriller

Red Bull KTM rider Sandro Cortese’s aggressive tactics in last weekend’s Assen Moto3 race have been criticised after he hit team-mate Danny Kent on more than one occasion in a thrilling podium battle. British teenager Kent almost crashed on the high-speed approach to the final chicane in the closing stages after he was hit by hard-riding Cortese’s KTM machine. Kent managed to...

Good friends...

It's a good job they are good friends... to do it once can be put down to over exuberance, but twice in exactly the same circumstances, & then say that, is stating that he clearly thinks it's common practice & he needs to know that it's not acceptable behaviour at this level.

Well done to Danny for staying on, keeping a level head, racing his heart out & achieving his 1st podium... against all odds.

It's a non-contact sport. OK so occasionally it's going to happen that riders come together (ooooerrrrr missus, obviously) but for it to happen to the same rider more than once in a race is not acceptable. I think part of the problem is that riders know then only stand a chance of being penalized should they take another rider out, even then some people get away with it. Race direction need to take a harder line. For example some riders (MM?) seem to think that it's OK to jink at other riders because they will take evasive action, but to my mind it isn't OK to make any move which has no purpose other than to force another rider to take evasive action.

..........putting others in danger is worthy  of punishment. As 'jolly' states, one-off's are part and parcel of racing, but to do the same thing several times is out of order. The 'mad Turk' was punished during the WSS race so why not Cortese? He should have got a ride-through imo.

Agree with all that. It is a non contact sport which some seem to forget. One light amendment to your text would be to remove the ? after Marc Marquez, we know what he's done and have seen his tactics over the years. When he has a 'problem' he won't get much support.

Casey's tweets

Obviously moaning again, but here they are.  During the race ...

Cortese needs to have more than a slap on the wrist for his riding in this race. He's going to cause a huge crash if he's doesn't stop it.

and just after the race.

Kent rode a really nice race and deserved more than he got, maybe he shouldn't be so nice to Cortese next time.

those moves on Kent have toughened him mentally and he now approaches each race with a "no feckers getting passed me" mindset then it's the best thing that's happened to him in racing. I was expecting Kent to drop back rapidly after getting a bit of argy bargy put on him, but to see him fight back like that was bloody brilliant.

I hope we see podiums and wins from Kent from here on out.

All this wrap them in cotton wool attitude is getting boring. Bash fairings, bash elbows, punch each other and headbutt each other if you have to but this playground antics is frankly rather pathetic.

The likes of moaner and Lozenger have killed the racing with their pathetic whining! It's getting more and more like F1 every race!

The worst move by Cortese was early on when he ran a rider right off the track.Should be banned for the next race for that. His racing with Kent was hard but fair.

"His racing with Kent was hard but fair."

Knocking another rider off isn't fair whether it's off line, off circuit or off the bike... ultimately, as we've seen in Moto2 & MotoGP, a simple crash can end in death... the fact that Danny stayed on was to his credit but it could just as easilty have broken a the peg or gear selecter equally ruining his race. Just because Cortese was lucky enough that neither happened doesn't make it right... you have to give the other rider space to race otherwise we end up with Zarco moves all over the place & one rider left standing.
