Speeding in France

I just got back from a jolly nice trip to the Loire Valley region, but there was a difference of opinion amongst the group as to the law regarding speeding and points etc.

If I get caught by one of the roadside cameras in France, do I still get points on my licence in the UK?

NO

not currently although there are plans for this to change.

as you may or may not know the French do roadside fines if stopped by a copper and you do have to pay these.

they may also keep your details on record from the camera

Thanks arryace

any idea when this situation is likely to cange? or is it a wait and see?

Interestingly the local camera van was parked on my road today, so I took the oportunity to have a word. He had no idea about the points situation for brits in france, but did say that if a french car went through his camera doing 90 up the high st, there's absolutely nothing he can do about it. They just let em go. Only the police proper can deal with speeding foreign motorists in this country. N'est ce pas!
