Jorge Lorenzo unfazed by Valentino Rossi’s potential Yamaha return

Jorge Lorenzo wouldn’t be fazed by Valentino Rossi’s potential return to Yamaha’s factory MotoGP squad next season. Rossi is being strongly linked to return to the Yamaha factory squad he quit at the end of 2010 having won four world titles and 46 races in a seven-year period that was the most successful in the Japanese factory’s history. After a disastrous spell...

Fanciful rumor with Marlboro me thinks

Never say never but the more I have read and think about this the more unlikely I see it. For starters, this makes no sense for Marlboro. PM has been a long Ducati sponsor and surely there is a contract in place. I know it was said when Ducati came to MotoGP that without PM it would not be possible for Ducati to be there - so they pay a huge chunk of change. The original article that ran about this story on motocuatro.com stated that it would be difficult but not impossible for PM to sponsor both Ducati and Yamaha. Yamaha doesn't have a title sponsor but from what I read last year it't not because they didn't have interest but because they wouldn't lower the fee to accommodate the ones interested. So who ever gets the Yamaha title sponsor won't get it at a discounted price. I've seen were it has been said it maybe a split garage with Rossi/Marlboro on one side and Jorge on the other. Yamaha is not gonna split their factory team into 2 colors nor are they gonna bend over backwards to accommodate Rossi. Now let's remember that PM also pays most of Val's salary of something like $14 million Euros. If Val goes to Yamaha they aren't paying him what they used to pay him and more than likely not paying him equal or even close to equal to Jorge. The Yellow Ego isn't going without his wage nor can I see him taking a wage cut AND crawling back to Yamaha - so PM will still be on the hook for some of his salary. Casey Stoner won a title for Ducati Marlboro along with winning more 800cc races than anyone - including Val. PM was more than happy to see him walk out the door. And what has Val won at Ducati? FUCK ALL. So why would PM hitch their wagon to him and be so quick to invest more money in him after winning absolutely nothing at all for them? Why would they still pay Ducati, pay to be a title sponsor at Yamaha, AND pay Val's salary? Even in the best of financial times that makes absolutely ZERO sense. If PM wanted to get with a current winner, why wouldn't they just go to Yamaha on their own without paying Rossi? Their is a possibility Jorge is gonna win the title this year. It's a strong possibility if they pay all that money to get Rossi to Yamaha, Jorge is the guy that will come out on top. So why would they put themselves on the hook for an insane amount of money?

Hey RawDawg

For PM & Yam the most important thing is the media attention VR generates. Thats what advertising and branding is about: MEDIA ATTENTION! Don't look any further for other reasons. And I think it's not a bad decision to have #46 in your garage, for the coverage aswel as results. Even if The Doc is not the first rider, JL can still have bad luck in all sorts of ways, so I think its not so bad to have a second rider who can pile up some valuable points , aswel as for himself, the team and the brand.

Exactly were on the Ducati bikes or leathers do you see the word "Marlboro"? You don't because of the the tobacco advertising ban. The rate of return for Marlboro isn't the same for other sponsors. For the simple fact they can't actually advertise their name and brand they aren't getting the same bang for their back as other sponsors. There is a reason there aren't any other tobacco sponsorship. The markets were cigarette advertising is unregulated probably have an interest in MotoGP about as much as you in an elevator with a lingering fart and the people there couldn't point out Valentino Rossi if he walked in a room in full leathers with "Valentino Rossi" stamped on his forehead. Hell, the average person watching MotoGP doesn't know Marlboro sponsors Ducati. It't only the diehards like us who know. There is absolutely no way Marlboro would get a decent rate of return sponsoring 2 teams and paying Rossi's wage. There isn't be enough media attention in the world concerning MotoGP for a decent rate of return for a couple of more bar code stickers and patches. It doesn't make sense. If it made any sense there would be more tobacco advertisers.

LORENZO

would kick rossi's ass once again. and rossi know this. i'm sure he "never" call yamaha cause he know lorenzo is no. 1 rider and he's 2nd. it's pain for him. treaten like the way he treated lorenzo would be his karma. lorenzo would never fall back to challenge. especially he already stated that it's much more FUN to fight rossi than stoner and dani.

i'm so amazed by lorenzo mentality. no one in motogp has it like him today. well, if stoner retire, i'll support him for sure. gonna change no. 27 with bold head. LOL. if he took the WC this season it'll be fantastic. but i still hope it's stoner even need miracle now for it.

ROLL NEXT RACE!!!!

Forbes..

Rossi is mainstream.

#20 on Forbes list of highest paid athletes, just below Nadal, the same as Schumacher and in front of Klitschko, Hamilton and Sharapova @ $30 million last year..17 of which was wages, 13 in endorsements. It's been like that for years and so I don't think he needs the wages, per se.

We all know what the Red Marlboro chevron on a white background is..no need for words.

The value is by association and Valentino's philosophy is, generating excitement is more important than winning.

Something that has gone straight over the top of...whatisface's head. Miserable bastard.

Stare at my avatar for 10 seconds...... ??? There now do you feel better? Can you think of a current GP rider who has acted like a crunt? Nope still cannot get it...... I am going to Goggle GP work place violence. I am sure he kicked and punched people but isn't a professional boxer or an "Ultimate Fighter". _________ What was his name? He does something with Rags or Rags It? Apparently he can ride anything faster than anybody but for some strange reason doesn't ALWAYS win? Maybe he is a porn star too.... I seem to recall someone mentioning a boner? _________ Don't know but as I said before there seems to be a growing handful of riders who can all beat a 9 times chump and a bloke with an orange boner. What is his name? Errrrrrrrr dunno!
