US MotoGP: Casey Stoner equals Mike Hailwood’s victory tally

Casey Stoner equalled British legend Mike Hailwood’s tally of 37 MotoGP victories after he stormed to a second successive victory in the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca yesterday. The Australian swept to his fourth win of the campaign after passing title rival Jorge Lorenzo’s factory Yamaha on the fast uphill approach to the first corner on lap 22. Stoner’s decision to...

For a man with family responsibilities and retirement announced long ago, his will to win and live up to his employers expectations is astounding.

Or just a fair indication of how much he enjoys racing - unfortunately, not in Motogp anymore.

Ultimately though, what do stats mean against riders who stopped racing years ago. Too much emphasis on stats and records, they never tell a full story.

Don't be ridiculous

"This championship is far from decided yet"

Lorenzo is far too consistent as a rider, and far less fragile as a person.

But feel free to get your hopes up

No denying..

Stoner rode a calculated race after he didn't get the start and plan A - heading for the hills - was neutralised.

It inadvertently did him a favour as his steadier initial pace helped conserve the soft tyre. He did have a plan B however and must be given credit for that. He was confident and patient enough to execute a different strategy. It's an area of his racing, I think, that has shown the biggest improvement.

Funny how there is very little mention of the dreaded chatter when he rides as well as that though, eh Nostro?

Unproven rumor

I heard that Yamaha has problems with the dreaded chatter in their corporate ass because Valentino Rossi is sucking to Jorge Lorenzo so hard that Lin Jarvis has a terrible toothache.

A championship is made up of a full season PC

Yes, and that one mistake in one race put him out of three - or had you forgotten. Pedrosa's accident in just one race put him out of four

Lorenzo is odds on favourite to win, no doubt, but nothing guaranteed by any means. Only needs a twist of fate or cruel luck, or just one mistake to completely change the order.

Chatter Wosi

He did actually say in the Thursday press conference that being a left hand circuit, it could reduce the chance of chatter as they don't suffer so much with the left hand side of the tyre, only the right.
