US MotoGP: Valentino Rossi talks about potential Yamaha return

Valentino Rossi has given his views on a potential return to Yamaha’s factory squad in 2013, with speculation rampant in Laguna Seca that he will reject a new two-year offer to remain with Ducati. Rossi has been negotiating with Yamaha and a return to partner bitter rival Jorge Lorenzo could even be confirmed prior to the next round in Indianapolis. Rossi left...

Why so astounded?

It only took Stefan Bradl one race on a satellite bike.

I'm not sold on Marquez yet

I'm not sure he's the next Messiah on 2 wheels as some make him out to be. Both Dani and Jorge both came into MotoGP far more polished than this kid with more titles to boot. MM does't seem to be as smooth and clearly not as level headed as Bradl either. I'm not sure how this guy will be on the larger 1000cc bike. I'm sure he will be fast but how soon and how consistent he will be is a question.

If Rossi is still on the duke marquez will beat him. if he's on the honda or Yam it'll be a season before he realises which way Rossi went... Took Jorge 3 years and multiple injuries to Rossi before he looked like beating him and Jorges pretty good..For me Stoner was more dominant in his first two years at ducati than he has been on the honda, (would have walked 2008 but for Rossi, read LS, yet this year he's only really still in it because Alvaro the Honda contracted rider took Jorge out.). Yet Rossi took the title away from him by a larger margin than even he did Jorge.. Casey also having to 'wait' his turn.. The duke has no front end, all Rossi's pace comes from having a good front end.. he'll do a stoner in that he'll be competitive every weekend from the off on a jap bike.. Whether he'll get equal treatment is another matter.. Could win the title next year ont he honda on th eyam they're will be too many politics,, After all Yamaha were over the moon with Jorges 3 wins last year,, yet weren't happy with Rossi 6 the year before..The first season of the new engine rules..... In short honda will love him if he wins Yamaha will ask him to take a pay cut.. No brainer..

Belt & Braces, Yam & Honda

Off to Yamaha! Too many people seem to have known already (Lorenzo, Spies etc). When too many know what Rossi's up to it's usually wrong e.g. everyone knew he would re-sign for Honda for 2004 (including Honda). The guy seems too smart for that, and if he can trip up Dovi, Crutchie, Jorge, Spies, Jarvis (Stoner?) and Duke/Audi he will - he's as mad as hell about the Italian disaster. While a Yam would be good for Rossi, a Honda might be even better. Don't kid yourself that the Big H do not need him, they do (Stoner's turned in his leathers). Marquez and Pedro have not got a hope in hell of winning next year. Marquez is a flyweight rookie, and the absence of Stoner will reduce Pedro to his  former inconsistent pace. Of course there are no factory Hondas available for 2013, or are there. The rumour of another 2013 works bike is persistent, so what better person to ride it than a self-financing GOAT. If I am wrong about this it is not a problem. The whole story has been a far better one than the Rossi to F1 myth.

Rubbish

He'd be signed by now, they have had plenty of time to put him on their factory bike if they wanted him. They didn'tt. The boss said so. He isn't on it.

There is no way they will give any rider a full spec bike in a satelite team for that rider to then embarass them by beating their factory team and pissing off their main sponsor.

And give the goat crap a rest - he isn't. Ago is by way of the record count you lot use to define it.

Rossi

Hey stompmyduke  you may have a point it's unlikely that Bautista will be re-signed to ride the Gresini Honda so what about Rossi taking that ride with factory backing after all he did that with the Nastro Azzuro backed 500cc back in the day and taking the championship in Simoncelli's colours ?  Comments please - foul or fair I dont care !

Hey Bultoboy  just to let you know that Ago is the all time record holder  BUT  the majority of his victories were unchallenged as he raced the all-conquering MV August against uncompetitive Manx Nortons and cobbled together specials like the Paton. You need to be of a certain age to know this matey !

Oompa Loompa reality denial

The point all you little 46'er acolytes are missing is that IF the Ducati really is as poor as all you 'no idea which end of a screwdriver to hold, engineers' think it is, and given Rossi states it's not about the money, just why hasn't VR leapt at this supposed Yamaha contract?

I'll tell you why. He's put himself between a rock and a hard place by virtue of his Stoner induced "I'll be racing in GP's for at least two more years" statement and is shit scared of what will happen 2013. He knows he can't compete with Lorenzo, otherwise he never would have jumped ship in the first place. He also knows that the Ducati really isn't that bad and is perhaps only a tweak or two away from being very damn good. If he continues to fail there then he knows half the blame will fall on Ducati because Ducati no longer have a decent Alien class rider yardstick to judge their progress with. If the D16 does improve he may sneak a few more podiums and bow out a little more gracefully than were he to quit now.

Yet another corner his ego and gob has painted himself into. They call him Mellow Yellow. Ha, ha, ha.
