Nothing grey about these

The 400cc sportsbike is an exotic delicacy from a far off land. Shipped to the UK under the banner of ‘grey import’, these beautifully wrapped, miniature GSX-Rs, CBRs, VFRs and FZRs looked like they’d been ridden straight from the Suzuka pitlane at the Suzuka 8-hour and were hugely sought after in early and mid 90s. Restricted?

Saying just of the GSXR "some versions were restricted to just over 110mph" is misleading.  All the grey import 400s from Japan were restricted to 180kph (112mph) when they arrived here because of the Japanese licensing laws that created the market for them in the first place.  Usually the dealers here would derestrict them, but not always.

Also the restriction was purely a speed limiter, so the GSXR would rev to 15,000 whether derestricted or not.

Great bikes

No doubt these bikes are great fun....Trouble is (like most sportsbikes) with my old limbs & back I would be crippled for a week after riding one!

So I bought the CB400 Superfour, revs like a lunatic & handles like it's on rails.

MCN (TAKE NOTE)....the only 'Superfour' advertised on here is actually a creaky old 400/4.....Just NOT the same bike!!!!!!
