Ben Spies close to shock Gresini Honda deal?

Ben Spies is edging closer to committing his future to MotoGP after it emerged in Brno today he is locked in talks over a shock move to the Gresini Honda squad for 2013. The Texan seemed certain to switch to World Superbikes to partner Marco Melandri in a BMW Italia squad next season after he announced he will quit Yamaha’s factory...

To the misguided..

..Despite what we all might think, these guys aren't racing for the sole pleasure of entertaining us. I enjoy my job, but I need to pay my mortgage and fund my children's crack habit - and that takes money. Why shouldn't Crutchlow fight hard for a decent pay cheque, he's 5th in the championship and rightly feels he's deserving more than what was possibly on the table? I think his longer term objective is still a factory bike, for the big pay day and also the chance for a crack at the title. The same fundamental goals of all the other riders on the grid...!

Trained monkey

Yet again Nostro gets it wrong. If it is a case of training a so called monkey, then everyone of them would be pulling in 20 million. It really does wind Nostro up that the trained monkey  has got that something special, in order that he can command 20 million, he must get so many sleepless nights!!!

spies vs cal

sounds to me like spies has had a headfuck, i actually agree with wosi he has sold out or his mummy has!!!, cal has stayed put because yamaha are saying the bike wont be too different to the factory efforts and im sure with a few strings pulled who knows he could well end up on a factory machine if jorge or flossi gets injured?, spies has a perfectly good yamaha he walked away from bad luck or not, he chosseto quit not he has to play his card with gresini, second fiddle to the factory squad, yes simo(58) was fast on it but i believe he had more class than spies for sure and made the bike look good/better

as far as dovi, i remeber now he did say i wont go near ducati !!!!sell out.

Why is it that everything Spies does these days  makes him look a tit, the picture in MCN at the bottom of page 89 makes him look like the devil

Something special our flaming pigeon

Yes he does. Possibly the best bike on the grid. But he doesn't have the talent to extract it's full potential. Having been trackside this weekend it was noticeable aurally just how much more traction control Rossi uses over the top guys. His wrist really is rather limp.

Rumour has it that Suzuki were in town this weekend and talking to Carmelo. Now obviously Carmelo wants them back in, and knows that he has fucked Spies factory place at Yamaha for golden balls Rossi. The US market is important to Carmelo and Hayden ain't gonna be doing nothing on that Ducati to keep the yanks interested and Spies definately has the talent given a good bike but if he leaves for WSB then he is gone forever with no other young americans coming through. Suzuki will want a top rider in 2014 so a one year deal for Spies with Gresini Honda and then off to Suzuki sounds about right.

Carmelo once again sticks his oar in and fucks up a possible move for Crutchlow to Gresini, and Alvaro is simply a victim of too many spaniards in the camp. Business and politics above riding talent I'm afraid.

It's funny reading these comments week after are such a nasty bitchy bunch.....

For a start..what's all the Mummy's boy crap? How many riders have their Dad doing exactly what Spies Mom is doing? No-one complains about a negative influence there...but let's remember Jorge's Dad almost fucked up his career before he cut his ties with him. To me I think there has been some manipulation of Bens position at Yamaha and this has affected his performance on track as well as all the bad luck mechanical issues. He doesn't ride well when he's unhappy - this was true of his AMA days and his rivalry with Matt Mladin. He could well do better on the Gresini Honda. Rea has always said he would bide his time moving into MotoGP - so I don't think there is an issue here. Every rider is riding for money...they're not putting their lives on the line altruistically for our entertainment....they all endorse products and are paid by Cal is no different. He took the Tech 3 ride because it was the only realistic that it's a bike and a team he's used to. Too much speculation and no real application of common sense is what your comments are lacking....and too much back biting for a bunch of adults.

Retired? Not yet... but when they do

Of course they do it for the money.  It's only about the money.  Pay everyone a million quid and one racer a million quid and 50p, most would complain about the 50p. Cal knows his worth, he has stuck to his guns and quite rightly held out for the higher offer.  Herve knows Cals worth too.  It's why he re-signed him... and paid him more money.  Cals worth is rocketing with the media exposure he's had this year.  So why shouldn't he wait for money?

It's exactly the same reason Dovi went to Ducrappy.  Why would someone regarded as the new alien resign himself to 2 more years in GP as a 5th (at best) to 10th place contender?  There's slim chance of that bike being developed to beat the Japanese.  Dovi knows it.  Don't hold your breath for the rain either...just because Rossi can ride it in the wet doesn't mean Dovi can. Dovi's not exactly a marketing dream so he's looking to exploit that weakness by being 'another' Italian on the Red Bull...'he's worth more to an italian sponsor. So in a couple of years when Dovi is sitting by his pool with the Reverend rubbing oil into his back, looking out over the fabulous views in a huge villa paid for by the Bologna outfit (and Italian version of Clearsil), he won't really give a shit looking at the back of Bradls honda (or anyone else) for 25 laps.

You got booted by a factory.  Take a pay cut to ride a satellite bike.  Get offered a few million to ride a career ending piece of shit all the while being a no.2 rider with no proven development skills. "Where the f**k do I sign, sounds like a great deal!".  Ciáo....
