MCN Awards 2012

The Imperial War Museum, Duxford, provided the stunning backdrop for last night’s 2012 MCN Awards, as dignitaries from the motorcycle industry joined senior MCN staff under the wings of Concorde in anticipation of winning a coveted trophy. The majority of the awards were presented early in the evening, with the headline honour of ‘Machine of the Year’ being presented after...

Amazing...

BMW are (rightly) awarded best bike in two separate classes. They also win Bike of the year with the S1000RR (again a well deserved award for a bike that is a class leader in superbikes). Suzuki,Aprilia and Honda both win two classes (open to debate). Who takes manufacture of the year again (YAWN)... Triumph ! I would have thought that the manufacturer that makes the most ground breaking bike that sells sufficient units to be considered a success would be the manufacturer of the year, which would surely be BMW . Obviously the only criteria for MCN to award their manufacturer of the year is that your name has to be Triumph. I doubt that Triumph will ever bring out anything truly ground breaking again and even MCN cant be stupid enough to think that giving this award to the same company year in year out fools anyone.

Oh do share your pearls of wisdom with us mere plebs and tell us what Triumph have actually done this year that would merit them being named manufacturer of the year over EVERY other motorcycle manufacturer. Did they produce a race winning bike ? Did they produce a bike that rewrote the rule book ? Did they take a ground breaking bike and make it even better ? Have they shifted more units than any other manufacturer ? Have they shifted more units in relation to their size than any other manufacturer ? Or is it that MCN would give them this award even if they stuck their badge on a dog turd ?

How did the Aprillia RS4 125 win 'best 125'? An all rounder like the cbf or ybr would have been more suitable imo.

Triumph: Copycats of the year.

I think the award for Triumph meant to read: "We are Brits, so the award goes to the only Brit on the list. By the way, if you want to know why we are giving them this award, in addition for the previous reason, is that being a copycat is a fine art and they have done it so beautifully."

Ducati should get the Manufacturer of the Year.
Best cruiser should also be the Ducati Diavel.
