Fond memories of the Ford Cortina

now Fifty years old. My first bike was delivered to me in the boot of one all in bits but not a piece missing!

I bought a Mk1 1500 super for £100

in 1977 at the local auctions. I kept it for 4 years doing odd jobs as thwey needed doing. Thinkd like breaks and a new clutch, welded the front suspension tops and new shocks at the rear. A great little car, I loved it. Part exed it for a escort van, bad move. I loved them old Fords. I had 3 Zephyr Mk 3's, 2 2.5litre sixes and a 1700 4. The last old Ford I had a was a Mk4 Zephyr 4, the big long one witht eh chopped off rear end. Wierd looker but a dream to drive. Soft suspension all round made our crap roads feel almost smooth. A mate of mine had a Mk2 1600 Cortina estate for years, fantastic old bus then he went and bought a Mk 3 1600 Cortina,  he hated it but I thought it was a nice comfy car to get driven about in, those front seats were sooooo comfortable.

Mk1 Lotus and Mk4/5's

Before I was born, my Dad used to rally a couple of Mk1 Lotus Cortinas (see link to pic), but unfortunately had to give it up when he had 2 children in the mid 70's, but we still had the car on the driveway for a few years after.

Then as kids growing up, my parents always had Mk4 and Mk5 Cortinas and an occasional Granada too.
