Tyre Age Code

Is there an manufacture age code on bike tyres that can help us mere mortals recognise the age of tyres?

Ageing a tyre

To identify their age, all tyres display a coded date of manufacture, these codes are usually located in a box or circle on the tyre sidewall. The first two digits represent the week and the second two the year of manufacture, ie. my back tyre is 1211 which means was manufactured around the end of March 2011

Shelf Life of Tyre

Found the following on the web.

"The shelf life of a tyre which is preserved in good conditions, that is, kept in an environment which is not exposed to direct sunlight, is dark, dry, and free from petroleum-derivatives or ozone-spreading sources is at least 5 years.

It is possible to preserve a tyre for longer periods without any damage, but then an expert should check and approve the tyre. In different sources, the shelf life of a tyre is quoted as 7-10 years."
