the video is crap, OTT reporting, anti bike rhetoric.

I did ride a lot in the past (including hunting --- stops waits for the hits) rode with the Household Cavalry, a big leveller of any man is a Cavalry horse, all big, all bastards ! did a horse masters course with the Royal Navy, not bad for being in the RAF

All I say is that horses are a big part of Britains history and should not be written out of our history, we wouldn't want for instance to see Laurence Of Arabia's Brough Superior dissapear from Britain would we, it's part of our history.

As you may have guessed I struggle to care but I'm disappointed that I'm so drunk that I can't think of any abuse.... yet not drunk enough to spell everything wrong.

Phil

keep trying :lol::lol:

yeh hunting --- I went twice with a lady I worked part time for in a hunter yard, she was only interested in qualifying her horse's for the local point to point as soon as she got her card signed off by the hunt master we were off home via the St Hilary point to point course and some practice jumps, I've never been so fuckin scared in my life ! a one eyed horse awkward as fuck but BIG ! his size got him over fences, I had zero control I left it all up to him. 30 mph on a horse no brakes and slippy grass ? safer on a bike at 90 !

The lady I worked for had no interest in the hunt, it was a requirement to get horses into races that's the origins of national hunt, the stuff you see on telly. The hunt we rode with to my knowledge never saw a fox let alone caught one, I certainly never didn't when I rode with them, all I got was a bollacking for over riding the hounds, I had zero control over Mary (ex Kings Troop horse) who in a normal school ride couldn't pick her feet up enough to avoid tripping herself  put her in a hunt and it was Jekyl and Hyde syndrome.

Well I'm pissed on 5 euros a gallon bodega red wine & as far as I can see no spelling mistakes, doing good ain't I ? how's my apostrophe's ?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Loss.

When I hear the phrase, "I'm ex-forces," I think, "And...?"

Heck, I work hard. Where's my sponsored, unrelated leisure activity? Oh, the company can't afford it.

If fatalities are a pre-requisite maybe nurses should get horse-riding lessons too.

Liking the logic james

How about train drivers who witness suicides. paramedics and firefighters who suffer abuse on false callouts? Mmmmm, think it's more to do with swearing allegiance to the sovereign and willingness to forgo your own life for the upper classes who don't give a shite about us

recless riding

After giving this a bit more thought, I do wonder whether there should be more legislation regarding the use of horses on the public highway. At the present time horse riding and cycling are on a par when it comes to using the roads. Baring in mind the wieght and sometimes unpredictability of these magnificent animals surely there should be safegaurds in place.

My personal reccomendations are :

Age restriction when unaccompanied by an adult rider.

Cumpulsory basic trainning (cbt) Roadcraft

Cumpulsory third party insurance

When you think a moped rider has to have all of these components to be entitled to ride on the public highway, I fail to see why horse riders shouldn't be the same. These animals can be dangerous in inexperianced hands, ridden on public roads surely demands evidence of profficiency.

My daughter is a fanatical horse rider and when she started venturing onto the roads during hacks with the local stable I insisted that she did her road safety certificate. I took her to the day course and was there long enough to see the level of precuations taken when using the public highway. In addition to the helmet they had to wear body armour, A hi-viz tabbard and white gloves for clear hand signals. Viewing the intial video on this topic the rider appears to have taken minimal precautions for their safety. The road network is a busy place and I think horse riders need to be a bit more switched on with regard to safety before they start jumping up and down about motorists and bikers shortfalls.

End of lesson. :smile

Horse riding in the RAF

the armed forces encourage competetive sports, all the time I had off for competitions was taken from my annual leave entitlement, the guys who played footie or rugby for the station were 'on duty' so didn't lose leave. I would estimate the total time I was on courses for equitation would amount to about 12 weeks out of 22 years, I paid my own way (fuel costs) to and from Winsor and Portsmouth. The 2 occasions I rode with the local hunt on an RAF horse were also in my own time --- and I wouldn't change a thing if I had my time again :smile The stables had to pay their way to an extent, if the income had dropped below a set amout for any lengthy period they'd have been closed down, yep they were subsidised by the RAF sports fund to a degree.
