Kawasaki GT550

I have a bit of a weird crush on the pugly Kawasaki GT550, a utilitarian motorcycle that just keeps on going. Trouble is finding a decent one that's not been abused. Do they even exist? I think they'd be the perfect winter hack and base machine for a matt-black rat bike/post-apocalyptic MadMax machine. Does anyone know of anyone who owns a minter?

GT550

Unlikely - they were a dispatch riders favorite and that's probably how most of them died.  Did you know they made a 750 model too using an engine that was almost identical to the early GPZ unit?

Cheers

The GT750 was 'known by dispatch riders' as the one to avoid because they had more problems than the GT550 or at least weren't as bulletproof, so I'm told. My old man used to have a GT550 and it would have gone on forever if he hadn't given it to someone to service who knew jack sh*t and f*cked it up (rounded bolts off, knackered the shaft drive by draining the oil then going for a run before forgetting to put fresh oil back in it). Doh!

Gonna check out that one on Ebay, there's still 3 hours left! Looks like it'd be a perfect winter hack then something to pull to bits over the summer and turn into something nasty.
