Crosstourer too sporty for pillion insurance says Aviva

The UK’s biggest insurer is refusing cover for Honda Crosstourers unless riders agree to never carry a pillion. Aviva says the VFR1200X is a sports bike and on a list of machines the firm will not insure for carrying passengers. A spokeswoman said: ‘As you’re aware, some classes of motorbike are restricted regarding insurance for pillion passengers and this is...

go elsewhere.

Seems to be typical in the UK these days.  People making decisions which affect the rest of us about things they know absolutely nothing about.  Go elsewhere for your insurance...

Norwich Union Pillions

The worrying thing here is, where Norwich Union lead, the others tend to follow.

Will they be refusing pillion cover on my 1200GS next?? What about my 'Prilla RS125??

Go Elsewhere

Why get bike insurance with Aviva anyway? They always come out as one of the most expensive when I'm looking to renew. Go with a specialist broker or a firm that isn't backed by motorcycle haters. Why offer insurance for bikes if you don't want to insure them to be used for the purpose they've been built? Crazy.

Insurance companies need to be brought to task and soon. Own a Landrover? Some won't insure them if they have sideways facing rear seats, so that is all station wagons. Some will not insure them if they have more than seven seats, so that is all LWB station wagons!

Now to carry a pillion it costs more to insure and somebikes you cannot carry a pillion full stop even though they have two seats!!

These vehicles are legal on our roads, they are made to carry passengers and until the law says they are banned then they should be insurable, end of story. They also should not be so expensive that no one can insure them either!!!

I'll never use Aviva anyway after what they did to insurance policies for young drivers in the late eighties/early nineties!!

Sports?

I insured my SV650S for pillion use and it seems MUCH sportier than this. I'm also insured to ride other peoples bikes for no extra £ so thats cool :)

Aviva Insurance RIP OFF

Yet again, we have an insurance company failing to do what it should.  To say the Crosstourer is too sporty just beggars belief.

Aviva (aka Norwich Union) are just rip off merchants like all insurers - This is just typical of them - all I can say is all bikers should just boycott them and go elsewhere.

When will the government do something about moto insurers - they are all rip off merchants and will be until the government sort them out......

Why is the list commercially sensitive that's just complete and utter trash.........

Rant over for the time being.........!!!!!!!!!!!

"It Says Here.....

........on my list". Obviously wrong and obviously the person dealing with the quote didn't know bikes. I would expect Aviva to correct this fairly quickly.

I've had problems getting a quote for a new model before, because it wasn't yet listed. I've never had one on the wrong list though.

It begs the question: If they under-quoted a bike because it was incorrectly listed, let's say for the sake of argument they thought a Panigale was some kind of commuter motorcycle and charged a low premium, would they pay out on a claim????

Bet they wouldn't.
