Anyone nearing state pension age ?

well if you are and you're getting any other pensions keep a sharp eye on the tossers in HMRC.

Today I recieved yet ANOTHER notice of coding. They were going to (I suspect still might) tax my civil service pension and my military pension at 20% each.

Another phone call to the ministry of blunders and wonders ensued, it transpires they had me as still working in the civil service. Everything was OK till I reached 65 & my state pension kicked in taking me further over my tax free limit.

Everything was done correctly when I left the civil service, according to the girl I spoke to it's all down to the time of year I left the civil service ! WTF that has to do with it I really do not know but it's the latest excuse for cocking up my tax. FFS I left the MoD 3 years ago !

Be warned --- they really do not appear to know what they are doing.

I thought that too

but my state pension was more than I expected it to be! Its the private pensions I contributed to (about six of them) that I had to turn into an annuity that was disappointing.

are one of my pension providers, I've had no snags with them the snags I'm having are solely with HMRC praps it's revenge for beating them last year on the tax bill they tried to stick me with for 2008/09. when you phone them you never get the same person and each one says " ah ! I can see what's wrong" last month it was a wrong coding applied this month it seems they thought I was still working for the MoD in Cornwall despite my address being in Spain.

The person I spoke to yesterday asked my DoB then asked how old I am ffs ! I had told her only minutes before I'm in reciept of my state pension so that'll be 65 then Mr ******* Well done ! now can we actually talk about what you've got wrong !

Another try... pensions...

Still decades until I'm in reach of one,  and I'm not expecting the State to make good on a single penny on it by then.

The State will decide it's means-tested,  so only someone who's never bothered saving a penny, probably never worked or contributed a damned thing, will be the only people getting anything back from the system.

My private pension is, thanks tony B liar and gordon.  Thanks to our socialist overlords at the time im down £150 a month paying to for a degree, (sorry for wanting to go to uni) and lose £190 to pay for my worthless pension let alone the 300 quid that is taxed to the hilt just to get to work

Pads - "socialist" ?

WTF are you talking about "socialist overlords" for, Pads1982?   We haven't had any socialists in government since about 1951.

Surely you're not stupid enough to think Blair was a socialist?  Do you even know what a socialist is?  (Answer - no you don't.  Because The Sun doesn't tell you the truth.)

Retirement ?

ah retirement ! it's taken more than a year to stop waking at 0:430 the time I'd get up for day shifts, today we slept through til 0:930 that was late for me, I normally awake around 0:700 these days when the local hoard of sparrows are creating a racket  (we're still sleeping with all the windows and balcony door open)

Took our morning stroll to Altea and back, had lunch, now back from the beach (30 deg today) may wander out later to see Pablo Bloom.

Tomorrow we'll do our weekly walk to the lighthouse then a trip to the local Casa Cultura to sort out more Spanish lessons.

Tuesday a ride out somewhere with the Vulcan and stopping off at the Heartbreak for ribs on the way home (500 yards away )

Retirement ??? it's fookin hard work :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Pics are of our morning walk today :smile
