Crossply or Radials

  1. I have an FJ1100 and the FJ club says that Crossplys should be used on it as radials have never been tested on these bikes. They also say that the rims are too thin to support radials. When i asked at a bike shop about this  he said he would not use crossplys over radials. Am i to assume that with modern materials that radials would now be acceptable?

If the wheel rims were, as with the original V max, designed to run crossplies your only option is to change to a rim that is designed to be fitted with radials.

I decided to change my rims this year as trying to get a new rear tyre for the V max is getting harder, I now have a wider choice of tyres and the change to the handling is not having to get off and push the bike round corners.

Why can't you put a radial tyre on a wheel designed for crossplies??

Sounds like hokum to me.
