Waterproofing leathers.

You'll be lucky.
I carry a pair of thin waterproof over-trousers and waterproof jacket under the seat for such occasions. Cheap ones of the type cyclists use are all you need.

That really, leathers are designed with racing in mind,so max protection, very breathable, in that order. Goretex or other material's will add weight and reduce breathability.

So either wear material kit, or as James say's "waterproof over-trousers and waterproof jacket under".

looking at waxing them as you'd do with boots, realising that's not enough when you're doing 60+ then giving up and getting some decent textiles or spending a fortune on leathers with goretex proshell liners.

As Above

The very best you could hope for with leathers on their own is slightly "Shower Resistant" with regular doses of products companies such as Nik-Wax produce.

If you want to stay dry in anything more than a light shower I would repeat what most others have said & recommend an oversuit

Have you tired using Nikwax , I use it for my leather walking boots, But you have to recoat it every time you are wearing. For leather Jackets my friend use Goretex .
