you are spot on mate,the pace of improvement is frightening,some on here scoff at the chinese bikes but as i always point out if you have enough money you can make anything and china is awash with cash.sadly i am old enough to remember when people laughed at the japanese.the only hope for the rest is if the importers take a huge cut and lose the price advantage,i believe enfields are peanuts in india,our importer change a few things and triple the price,

Great wall of China !!!

Loncin who make the Bmw GS 650 engine under licence seem to have hit on with an interesting design.The bike looks good,and yes it does have a few rough edges but can you imagine,with the right amount of money the different engine configurations, this bike could use? The 800 S,1000RR,engine to name but two,with carbon,titanium etc,wow !!! Should give the Japanese and Europeans including BMW food for thought. I think BMW,as usual from a corporation wanting to control pricing,are proving once again, that if enough interest is taken, this bike could sell at a decent price but,this isn't to be allowed,NO,the `PLEBS',MUST BE MADE TO PAY THROUGH THE NOSE .......and then some to keep the corporate greed machine turning.

No-one would buy this bike; it's too expensive even at £5000, too powerful for the new A2 licence, and single cylinder bikes haven't sold in the last 40 years no matter who sells them! Yamaha SRX? Honda XBR? Enfields? All low sellers and very niche. To say it's a mature engine is being polite, it's past it with well known water pump failures.

How long before Loncin start selling enough of these machines to then tell BMW to shove their agreement (lets face it, hardly an up to date engine is it) and Beemer are left to source either another wheezing single or drop the ripping 690 unit from KTM.

The japanese over took the british motorcycle industry because they offered something genuinely better and more reliable than what was previously on offer. Apart from price the chinese aren't likely offer better products than more established brands. They may break into the cheap commuter scooter/ bike market in the next 10-20 years. I'm not convinced they'll realistically compete against more established manufacturers for higher premium vehicles till after my life time has ended.

wanted to do it, they could.  But they don't want to - at least not to the UK anyway.  The Chinese manufacturers main market is China and other developing economies.  They want small capacity, cheap to run bikes and aren't too fussed about they latest technology or bhp figures.  These qualities are more important to some of our European neighbours and so Chinese bikes have taken off in countries like Italy and Spain much more than they have here to-date.

Herp a derp.  47hp ~= 46.6hp ~= 35kW = new A2 license.

But fair point, why buy some ChingChong branded bike for £5K when you can get a ChingChong made but Honda branded NC700S for £5300.
