Don't tell me, you were in the paddock alongside Burgess and Doohan too... If you don't care why do you persist?
I really, truly, don't understand your agenda. ElDiablo made some spectacularly wild and absurd remarks about the reasons one rider is retiring and went on to pour scorn over that rider and every other by stating Rossi is 50% Motogp, insinuating the rest are worth sod all. This is utter cock. He then trotted out the usual GOAT crap, insinuating today's riders have it easy and how Rossi earned his wins against proper competition in the days of unassisted 2-strokes. Funny how Rossi is asking for more and more electronics to tame his Ducati - the one Stoner rode with them turned right down.
So. it's his comments I'm responding to, not having an unsolicited pop at your hero - understand.
If you think electronic aids weren't availble in the 500 2-stroke days, you're not as close to the paddock as you claim. In the year of our lord 2000 I bought, over the counter, a 2 stage programmable CDI for my enduro bike. I could map in whatever curves I wanted and I had a 2 position switch on the bars to change between the two maps. That's me, an amateur off-road racer. Imagine what Honda had available then.
Burgess I have nothing against. He is quoted as saying Doohan rejected 'all the toys' and he was glad he got to play with them when Rossi joined. Look it up if you can't remember that particular conversation - perhaps you were busy ogling the grid girls. Doohan was rejecting these in 1995. Remember the electronics Honda had in F1 back in the 80s?
Doohan was well known for not messing with his bike when there was no need. Once he had got Honda to build the bike how he wanted it, it stayed the same for about 4 years, his attitude being if I'm winning it isn't broken so don't try to fix it. He didn't want the electronics. In 1999 he had a new frame, the biggest change in years.
If you have a problem with this, you need to get in touch with Benny and find out who his psychiatrist is - you need him as you have issues....
