MotoGP boss wants imminent decision on 2014 rules

MotoGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta says he will push through his controversial plans for a controlled ECU and rev limit unless the factories can propose viable alternative options to help achieve his objectives of cutting costs and making racing more entertaining. Ezpeleta said he is willing to compromise on implementing radical rule changes like a single ECU if Honda, Yamaha and Ducati...

Whats in it for the factories?

Strikes me that if they dumb it down so that the CRT's can compete on an equal footing with the factories and their prototypes....then what's the motivation for the factories to build prototypes at all? Sure they can save money by building their own CRT's instead - which is maybe what Uncle Carmelo wants - but where will the money come from to develop the fancy technology that's supposed to trickle down to the bikes we ride on the road. The Factories won't spend it if they're getting beaten by souped-up road bikes every week! They'll say feck this, we'll enter a CRT bike too.

Then we'll have Carmelo's Superstock WSB series, and Carmelo's super-production CRT Motogp series. Then the two will inevitably get combined into one series and GP's as we knew and loved it will be gone. Sheesh, Mick Doohan would be rolling in his grave if he was dead.

Let the factories keep there own but supply ECUs to any team that wants them. Tell the factories they must supply 6 bikes, all the same spec. Any new parts fitted to the works bikes have to be made available to the other teams within 3 races.

own ecu

make the teams have 2 ecu's available to them one for stock spec and one for track which need a tweak,im sure it would make better racing, as for honda well i think their own plan is already in place.

You want to cut costs / more excitement?

Easy to solve this one...

1. 1 bike per rider, no backup bike only spares to rebuild

2. 26 litre tank to run pump fuel.

3. All factories to supply 6 equal bikes (2 factory team, 4 satellite)

4. Flag to flag races to have wheel change mid race if required.

5. No control ECU but rev limit of 16K

6. Add an F1 style calender to attract more global sponsors, (4 races is Spain? (they skint..!, 3 race in US? No one has heard of MotoGP..)

And finally, drop the ticket prices and you might get some punters in.

Moto 2 & 3 rock, MotoGP is a joke.

Re:  26 litre tank.

Fuel restrictions have no place in motor racing.

Have an economy run or have a speed event but never combine the two
