There should be a pinch-bolt (usually 10mm head) holding the lever onto the gearchange shaft.... is it tight?

the lever at the engine feels loose it moves  will i need to tightn this up first before making any adjustments to the lever at the footrest area...   ?

Can you wiggle the linkage so that the levers, and the connecting link have roughly the same angles??  if you see what I mean. Then tighten the pinch bolt... DON'T OVERTIGHTEN IT AND SNAP THE HEAD OFF.....
