Ben Spies to miss last two races?

A crash during last weekend’s storm-lashed Sepang race in Malaysia is likely to have been the last act for Ben Spies as a factory Yamaha rider, with the Texan now expected to miss the final two races of the season. He is definitely out of this weekend’s Australian round at Phillip Island after further medical checks in Kuala Lumpur revealed the...

Maybe the last 3 seasons in MotoGP could put his ability into perspective. Maybe in WSB he was just on the right bike at the right time.   In any case missing the last 2 rounds will make zero difference to MotoGP.   Maybe going to Ducati and finishing 7th to 10th will not be so embarrassing as that's where he'll be expected to finish.

Possibly yes, but wouldn't you say that's what most winners need? Say Rossi had gone to Ducati in 2004, the record books could look very different (and ffs, that is a simple observation, not an attack on the man, before anyone gets carried away)

No harsh

I’m with you Gary7r, he’s been a huge waste of a factory bike (this year) and he get’s to have another go next year.

Yes harsh

Terrible season for many reasons, maybe worst-ever factory ride...we know this.  But don't sell him short, Spies got potential.  Only non-alien to win in like 4 years.  Yall just keep talkin shit tho, attitudes like that give motivation.

I like adiemonk's idea of putting Cal or Dovi on the empty M1...too bad Yamaha won't do it.  I think it would be especially interesting to see Dovi on the factory bike, same as Lorenzo.  Andrea was the only one who could stay anywhere near Jorge in the 250s, and that was on the old Honda.  Even the Tec3 M1 seems to suit Dovi much better than the Repsol RCV did, and I bet he'd be even faster on the factory team.

As for Spies next year on the Pramac Ducati, I have to look on the bright side....surely it can't get any worse?!  Here's hoping.

Well it's official now ...

... Spies is out for the rest of the season - seems like the engine rumour was true after all.

I like your 01:46 post - a very good point - however in Ben's case he has massively under-achieved in the last two seasons he should have been at least top 4 all season on the M1 Yam.  Yes he's had a bit of bad luck but even when he's been on the pace in qualifying he's gone backwards or binned it in the race. With his move to Ducati there will be no expectations from him so 7th to 10th places 2013 will be acceptable.
