With respect moto4, jockeys in handicap races do carry lead to try and equalise the horses performance. There are two distinct aspects to the sport..man & beast.
In moto2, it's man & machine. All the bikes have the same mildly tuned CBR600 engine @120bhp weighing a minimum 140kg, so the power to weight ratio cannot be altered outside of the minimum combined weight proposal.
Marquez is a star but he has a big advantage as we can all see when he hits the straights.
If Scott weighs 227kg with his bike and Marc 210kg, the power to weight ratio measured in bhp per tonne(1000kg) is 528 for Redding and 571 for Marquez. 43 bhp over a tonne but let's say..10bhp over a quarter of that.
10bhp is worth having if you've only got 120.
IMO 120bhp is not enough and the bikes are too close to Supersport 600. Moto2, the supposed feeder, is barely faster and way slower than Superbike?
Someone needs to build a 750cc Triple with 81mm pistons for Moto2..to follow the regs in the other two classes and make as many parts (pistons, rods, heads) as interchangable as is possible to help costs.
Yamaha are rolling out a new big bang triple..what are the specs?
Surely Triumph could modify their 675..MV too.
160/170bhp ought to do it.
