Viewers wrongly told ‘running off on bends’ is most common bike crash as BBC muddles data

A BBC road safety documentary wrongly claimed ‘running off on bends’ was the most common motorcycle accident, based on an apparent misunderstanding of data. BBC2’s How Safe Are Britain’s Roads? claimed: ‘Two-thirds of motorcycle deaths happen on rural roads. Running off on bends is the most common type of accident.’ Questioned about the claim, a BBC publicist pointed to the number...

Part 2

according to the TV guide, tomorrow's programme is 'exploring the dangers of drivers using mobile phones' WTF, not exactly ground breaking, so will they be using that muppet in the people carrier again, as a test dummy, by calling him on the phone whilst he's driving !!!!!!! and asking him difficult questions, like his name, age, and favourite colour, and 'how many motorcyclists have you nearly killed today'. The whole programme is a BBC joke.

The photo in the paper of a rider clipping a car's wing mirror in France is Shakey Byrne, on a Fast Bikes video shoot. Is it not?

Who cares????

Who really cares what the Beeb thinks?

I am happy to be corrected but i think you will find there are as many motorcyclists involved in Single Vehicle accidents as there are multi vehicle accidents (feel free to dig through the stats)

does it make any difference if they were going round a bend, along a straight, round a roundabout or up the pub? no!! i theres no one else involved and rider error is to blame then it makes no difference what so ever!

ironic though that their presenter turns up in a car with 'almost illegal tyres' that are under inflated.

the bit about bikes was just a tiny part of the programme and they did conclude the biggest danger on our roads was humans and for that point they are spot on.
