GPZ500s fuel tap???

i have a 94 kawasaki GPZ500s that has started to run poorly below 4000rpm, sometimes dropping onto 1 cylinder. the problem sorts itself out when i turn the fuel tap off, but then returns if turned to the on or res position. would the problem be tap or carb related??? i have the tap set half between on and off and seems ok at the moment

Fueling issues

As it is easier to do, I would check out your fuel tap first.  They are fairly simple to remove / examine and also cheap to replace.

Kawasaki GPZ 500S 1994

Hi Steaky100

Your bike is nearly 19 years old,so its getting to that time when a lot of things can start to fail(just due to its age).In your case i have as a guess the rubberised diaphragm in the fuel tap has become porous, this will be allowing neat fuel into i think the left inlet(which ever the vacuum pipe goes to)it can be repaired with a kit.If you find any rust and water in the fuel, you may need to seal the fuel tank as it is often the shards of rust that cause this problem(rusty inside fuel tank),so if not addressed will just keep occurring.Good Luck
