Speed? Here's a scenario I came to be fined for. 30 limit, I'm doing 30, concentrating on the road, watchng for hazards, glanced down at my speedo, it'd crept up slightly (35) slowed down as I knew this road had sly camera vans on it. week later, summons came through. Was offered a speed awareness course (the fact I was doing 30 but momentarily crept up over the limit show's my awareness). £95 fine, day off work , £25 in fuel to get there and back. Yet daily police officersspeed past me obviously not on calls.
Now when I'm in that area, my eyes spend far too much time watching my speed and 'NOT' on hazards.
Regardng being fit and not putting anyone in harm..I don't personally know anyone killed on motorvycles, but I've known 3 guys who've died while keeping fit. One playing rugby, another on the football field (21 years old) the other heart attack at the gym.
Speed has been shown to be a small percentage of road deaths. It is inapprpriate speed, ie 90 past a school at the time coming out, or 100 mph safely at 2am on an empty motorway. But target driven camera operators don't differentiate. Don't forget, when the first cameras were introduced, we were told the police would show the same common sense approach to policing. That went out the window immeditely.
