Oldish has it right, chicken wire will do the job.  Just get it taut or you'll snag a foot and go A over T.  How far north are you, as we have odds and sods hanging about you could have if you want? Also have old conveyor belting.  Or, there are rubber mats at the local ag merchants 6' x 4' for £20, they'd do the job too.
