ratchet type helmet fastener

I changed my helmet a few weeks back to one that has the ratchet type fastening and it causes me a pain in my neck where the ratchet unit comes into contact as the ratchet unit is solid and does not 'give' when you look over your shoulder and digs in,the pain's so bad I have had to go out and buy yet another helmet this time with a d-ring fastener.
As the helmet's not faulty the shop more or less told me to p##s off..
So is it only me or has anyone else had this problem?

Yes and all seemed well, but sometimes these problems do not come to light until you use it day after day.
Like I said it might just be me,but I wanted to see if other riders had suffered the same problem.
