Scott Redding buoyed by Moto2 weight limit for 2013

Scott Redding’s 2013 world title hopes got a huge early boost in Valencia last weekend when a minimum weight limit was approved for the Moto2 class. A minimum weight limit of 215kg will be enforced, which includes the bike and rider in full racing kit. The move was a victory for Redding and his Marc VDS Racing squad, who have repeatedly lobbied...

Weight limits etc

Personally I don't see how you can have a Championship running on control tyres, control electronics and engine yet not have a minimum rider and bike weight limit. This will no doubt annoy Nostro (but he seems to have undergone a lobotomy since I regularly posted in here) but in horse racing there is a minimum weight limit, in karting there is a minimum weight limit and in F1 there is a minimum weight limit. In cycling there is a minimum weight for the bikes. Even if there had been a minimum combined rifer and bike weight this year Marquez would still have won (a view held by pretty much the entire gp paddock) but the larger riders would have been less disadvantaged.

You're still sidestepping your comment. Just because you're a Dovi lover, that doesn't bother me, it's just that he's not a title contender even on the best machinery, he's poven that, and a 125 title 8 years ago ain't much of a record is it, let's see how Scott does in the next 8 years, because Dovi's history.

Moto2

is supposed to be a feeder class for Motogp, same engines, same tyres, no rider aids, it's supposed to be as equal as possible to assess rider talent, so weight issues have to be addressed if smaller riders are seen to be doing better.

Silly Rule!

so weight issues have to be addressed if smaller riders are seen to be doing better.

There's a glut of smaller riders behind Scott, including former world champions.

Could it possibly be that the guys ahead of him have better prepared bikes, or have more talent, or dedication, intelligence, stamina, etc?

I don't think it's fair that a lighter rider may have to muscle a bike, effectively 10kgs heavier than Scott's bike, round the track. The naturally stronger Scott then has a manufactured advantage over these light guys which in itself isn't fair.

Silly Rule!

Keep changing the rules every year Dorna, thats the way to go! Same Ecu's for everyone, or maybe not? Weight limit for bikes or riders and their bikes? This new rule may suite Scott, witch is great. Now keep this rule for at least 10 years.
