Great idea but why restrict it to Wigan, and whilst they are at it, go round with organ donor cards at all the bike meets. Theres plenty of them in the northwest where they could drum up some support. Wouldn't do our image any harm in the media either!

Thanks for the interest Steve.

I work for NHSBT (which runs the blood and organ donation services) - don't worry, this isn't restricted to Wigan, we do similar things all over the country when it's appropriate. It's just MCN very kindly ran it as a national news item as it was such a tragic incident involving such young bikers.

We do also work with bike clubs to promote the Organ Donor Register - donor cards aren't needed these days, takes just minutes to sign up at

As well as blood, donated skin, bone and tendons are often needed to treat bikers after a serious crash - Ian Hutchinson will have had bone grafts to fuse his leg back together.

You can opt to donote those too via the Register.

Thanks, Chris.
