Colin Edwards approaches Yamaha about 2014 engine deal

Colin Edwards has held tentative talks with senior Yamaha management about his Forward Racing squad leasing a YZR-M1 engine and electronics package for the 2014 MotoGP world championship. Yamaha will lease as many as four YZR-M1 motor packages for 2014, as the factories commit more entries to end MotoGP being a two-tier class with factory prototypes and production-based CRT machinery. Honda has...

But Benny

If you had applied that concept, you would know full well that your "theoretic" question wont apply or be in the equation of that time ,That is giving you the benefit of the doubt that you had actually not taken it that it would be an issue in 2013,which is generous of me. chortle !

In my humble opinion

The M1 engines which Yamaha lease will  lease to CRT's will not be at the same level of development as the full factory engines they will be basic M1's which will require tweaking by the individual teams hence they will be allowed the full 12. That is assuming that the rules don't change between now and 2014.

I can agree with you, the dictatorship that runs this show is it ruination, a lot of people criticized Stoner but his views sometimes and reasons for retirement are valid , can you imagine Sheene and Roberts comments on the subject were they around now

let them race what they want

after reading stigs and benny thoughts, the conclusion imo is let them race what they want to a certain restriction, fair point about jorge using 5 motors but considering these are the "best from yamaha money can buy"!!! or is it? anyways, as a grid boost for good riders and not just make ups they need to make rule changes inviting and very fast to keep "us the fans" interested in the races and not just the banter and gossip, me peronally given the races moto 2 have produced maybe the future is a single engine rule? not that the bitg guns will like that nor the riders but from a fans point of veiw the racing would be "fair" as such.

Foggy you touch on an interesting point..

..you ask if it's the "best from yamaha money can buy"!!! or is it? - well, to me that's the $64million question. It would be unfathomable to think Yamaha have not asked themselves the question, by leasing these engines, is it not within the realms of possibility that in a decent frame they might be snapping at the heels of the full factory effort? Could be embarrassing...

Well I did have to give that one a good think as to has it been done before as Benny rightly points out, sure foggy put a Harris 500 in a decent position at some point too anyways maybe the engine lease is the better route as CRT clearly is to underpowered.no offense to teams making the effort but getting lapped I this class is taking us back to the early 90s,Kenny jnr had decent results in the v5 too,i do think these changes are defo in the right direction,be good to see a Ducati lump in another frame eh???????banter that one ppl.
