Triumph Bonneville long term test

There was a great article a couple of weeks back on the Bonnie. I'm continually surprised by the high mpg recorded and wondered if there's any opinion on how to improve my efi Thruxton. Its fitted with Norman Hyde exhausts and never gets above 35mpg despite frugal use of the throttle. These were fitted by the previous owner before I bought from a dealership. Aftermarket pipes are an essential for me as I just couldn't live with the mouse like sound of the standards - louder ones have prevented careless pedestrian accidents too. Any thoughts on how to get better fuel efficiency would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ollie London
