Yamaha expected to unveil new gearbox for 2013

Yamaha is expected to equip its factory YZR-M1 machine with a new seamless shift gearbox to aid Jorge Lorenzo in his quest to win the MotoGP world title for a third time in 2013. Honda and Ducati have been using the system since 2011 and it has been high on Lorenzo’s wish list for some time as he prepares to defend...

0.1 seconds a lap, how the hell did the Ducati engineers work that out. BTW if Cal thinks that Tech3 Yam is going to be just as competitive next year....................................think again !!

By consistently testing it back-to-back against a bike without & analysing the data...

"BTW if Cal thinks that Tech3 Yam is going to be just as competitive next year....................................think again !!"

Competitive against what? Ducati?... probably... Honda satellites?... probably... his team mate?... probably... the factory Yam/Honda guys?... probably not (though Rossi & MM are unknown quantities at the moment)... that'd make it "just as competitive", yeah?... we shall see...

With JL & Dani so close in points, wins & on the racetrack it'll be interesting to see if JL on the Yamaha disappears into the distance this year with this mod.

Get in!

Bollocks to the stats. MotoGP is about technology and getting it on the bikes. If Honda have been using it, and there is an advantage no matter how small, then get it on your machines. Go Yamaha!!!!

With two riders going so slowly it's doubtful the Ducati engineers could know what the hell was making a 0.1 sec difference, that was my (tongue in cheek) point OK.

And the Tech3 Yam was a new bike this year and very close to factory spec which it certainly won't be next year. They had to run it very close to the fuel limit to compete this year but isn't the fuel limit coming down even further next year or is that 2014 when the CRT's are gone. I don't know, so many rule changes all the bloody time.

Still the gear box should take away at least one excuse for Rossi, and whether the Tech3 bikes will have it isn't known, didn't even have the same brakes at the start of this year. Unfortunately Cal will be judged on this seasons results and not what spec bike he will be riding.

Tech 3 bikes

At the start of next season the bikes will be as close to the factory bikes as they were last season and that is pretty close.
