Equality and diversity in the work place

about 5 years ago when the Royal Navy embraced whole heartedly the equal ops thing they took on a lad who suffered from tourettes AND a stutter. He was drafted to RNAS Culdrose to work as a stores assistant which meant doing duty SA stints which entailed --- using the telephone. That poor sod suffered badly from piss taking by naval ratings phoning the stores when they knew he was on the duty desk. He left the Navy after less than 12 months service. It was cruel to put him into that scenario, he would never had gone to sea for obvious reasons.

Mute Tourettes Syndrome

Mute Tourettes Syndrome has long been in the shadow of its more famous sister-disease, 'Tourettes Syndrome', and although much rarer, is even more tragic in its consequences. While a child suffering from Tourettes has difficulty in containing its anger and frustration, a child with Mute Tourettes suffers the opposite fate, and is unable to express their true feelings. There is, however, an answer. A great deal has been achieved by the Mute Tourettes Foundation using new art therapy techniques. However, their work can only continue with your help. Just £1.37p will keep a child supplied with crayons for a whole day. £5 will provide them with enough paper for a week. Please give what you can to help this deserving cause.

Royal Navy equality

Equal opportunities and equal representation are two very different things.

Someone with tourettes and a stutter that impairs their communication would render them unfit for service.
