New licence laws having the desired effect?

Step daughter is bike mad. As soon as she was 16 she started riding an Aprilia RS50, (no girlie scooters for her), with her heart set on a Ninja 250 as soon as she could pass her test at 17. After her 2 year restriction she had set her sights on a Fireblade by the time she was 19.

Tonight she told me she's selling the RS50 to fund a car. Starts her driving lessons next week. It seems she can insure a medium sized car (1.4 Focus) for around £350 now so it's a no brainer.
I said I would pay for her bike test but she's not interested.

Provisional licence

That explains it. As such she is only insured with L plates and a supervisor. Once she passes her car test her insurance premium WILL be four figures.

Update

It appears that you were right about the insurance quotes, so my apologies.

She passed her test last month, age 17.
Bought her a car today, Citroen C3 (04reg), insurance was £1072 fully comp, so not too bad.
