Nicky Hayden tips Marc Marquez to shine early

Factory Ducati rider Nicky Hayden says he expects highly rated rookie Marc Marquez to be competitive immediately when the new MotoGP season kicks off in Qatar in early April. Marquez will replace retired double MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner at Repsol Honda in 2013 and several high profile rivals have tipped the teenager to make an instant impact. The latest is American...

Doohanf...

"I'll allow that he would probably have been less likely than stoner to have crashed at sachsenring and  had the bad following race."

When was the last time Rossi did a season without a single own fault race DNF?... 2008?... Stoner 2010? In fact in 2009, the last time Rossi was truly competitive, he crashed out at Indy while in 2nd place trying to match the pace of his team mate... the lowest he scored that year, 16th & lapped twice by everybody down to Stoner's 8th. The race after being 16th Rossi was 3rd... the race after being 8th Stoner was 1st... you want to see someone bounce back from crashes just look at Stoner's 2010 season... what does this prove? People can have bad days... both Rossi & Stoner have now had their fair share.

rossi's crashes

Yes even in his best years rossi was somewhat prone to a single mistake a year. Even in 2008 he had a near dnf at assen which let stoner back into the fight midseason, as I have said evidence that it can happen to anyone rather than a knock on rossi.

I am obviously a stoner fan and don't pretend to have ever been an out and out rossi fan, but one thing I admired in his youth was that he actually went for the wins and let the championships take care of themselves .

Riders and bikes

Back in the day when i was coming through the ranks motocrossing a came across a lad who appeared from nowhere on a Honda 250 red rocket. It was three years old by then, outdated suspension and a vicious engine. Well Albert ripped through the lower ranking on it, week after week, level after level, he soon hit the experts and amazingly murdered the field in the qualifying round and was in the national championship all with 12 months. The Sponsors followed and a brand new pair of Suzuki RM 250's . they were the very best at the time, superb engine, full floater suspension watercooled. Everyone wanted one. The result? Albert could'nt ride them for shit, he crashed all the time and placed nowhere... The point is you either gell with something or you dont, why you do ,or can make something work is a mystery . it just works....

This is almost exactly what agostini said about hailwood, that he could somehow ride bad bikes, which nobody else could ride at all,  fast but didn't get  much more  from a well sorted bike which was good for other riders.
