New BMW R1200GS ridden!

BMW’s all-new and eagerly-awaited R1200GS is currently being put through its paces in South Africa by MCN Senior Tester Adam Child. Here are his first impressions: “We’re in 40 degree heat heading off on a two-day ride but you instantly notice the BMW’s new, partially watercooled engine: it’s far more responsive, livelier and the extra power makes the ride so much...

So much time?

Guys you are already there for the weekend right? Is there some kind of "deal" where journalists should wait for a specific date before they release details? I cannot find ANY news in the network, although testers are with the bike already 3-4 days (am I wrong?). Only news are the 1200GS development infomercials from BMW Motorrad. Please clear this out for us?

Controlled Updates

Think you might be right about delayed feedback. Motorcycle sport and leisure also reporting on the release and advise they have early access to bikes to meet their print dates. Guess BMW have tied up some secrecy agreement so every publisher gets same access to bikes prior to release to enable their publications to be on the  shelf with the news all synchronised.

No Secrecy

Journos can't report if they haven't ridden.  and this is the first international press event for the new water cooled GS and as of this moment online press will start pouring in.  keep in mind that the print press is at least 2 months behind.

Note to Child, the GS has always had a manually adjustable windshield.

Windshield

Yes but not with one hand while riding, which is a feature of this new version. This is probably what he wanted to say. Hope this new windshield also doesn't rattle to beg for Touratech extras.

On-line press

Shiva there must be an agreement. On-line press should already be bursting with new data. It's been four days (or two the least) that they are there. I am sure they have Internet access. :)

Interesting that KTM allowed MCN access to their new bike long before official press launch

Configuration

OK the bike in the photo is "his" right? As I see it has specific configuration. From previous presentations we know they have demos of various configurations. Question is will they get to try alternative versions? (each)

Why have they tried to make it look like the Triumph Explorer?
