On occasion drivers will intentionally pull out in front of me and if I can't stop in time I will have to swerve over the white line or hit them.

Is this permissible?

Smoto’s and Jaffa’s replies were reasonable and didn’t warrant your rude reply. Since you claim to know the Highway Code it sounds like you’re looking for a loophole which will permit you to cross a solid white line to go past lines of traffic with impunity. There isn’t one.

 

Momentary transgressions may be part of filtering but you have to balance urgency against safety and the risk of getting caught; and accept the consequences. The solid white line warns of an oncoming danger. Assuming your chosen speed means you won’t be able to prevent a collision by braking, a swerve into oncoming traffic isn’t a great backup plan.

have to agree there guys,,a solid white line (which i was told many years ago by my "star rider course,lol) is to be treated as a solid brick wall !!!. these white lines are put there for a reason,ie,,,it is deemed unsafe to overtake,what ever the reason,ie series of bends,entrances etc,,call them what you like,but it all takes time and money to implement these,-for instance,the area is deemed to be a accident blackspot/area,,the council will put notices up to let people know that there will be disruption for the markings ,possible temp traffic lights while the work is being carried out,the road marking vehicle is a specialist bit of kit (an not cheap),usually 2/3 guys ,so all this is not just done willy nilly,,its done for a reason!!,,,its just not worth the risk is it?,sit back enjoy it,take in the scenery,,,,cant beat it!!!.

A - "There isn’t one." Yes there is, you should read the previous comments before depositing your pearls of wisdom.

B - The road markings are there to implement this silly scheme that they've introduced in my area where they have 2 lanes entering a roundabout and then immediately after exiting the roundabout (about 1-2 car lengths) the lanes merge back into 1 lane.  Does anyone think this is in any way a good idea?

You are so fucking naive, I'm betting you work for the government in some capacity but nothing too serious.

Also everyone read the original post properly, it'll save me explaining it.

On occasion - meaning not all the time

drivers will intentionally pull out in front of me  -  it's a hazard that develops quickly with no warning signs like indicators, approaching junctions or gaps in other lanes or drivers making observations.

if I can't stop in time- I usually can stop in time but I am not perfect and sometimes I can't

I will have to swerve over the white line or hit them. -  Notice the "or" if there is oncoming traffic I will obviously prefer to hit a stationary car rather than have a head on collision so I wouldn't cross the line. not because of the line but because of the traffic.

And Anticipation is what's Lacking in your approach to this subject (that & you're not interested in the replies that put you at fault). Don't charge up to/past vehicles whilst on a carriageway with a solid white line, approach Smoothly using your road position to demonstrate your intention to pass whilst remaining on Your side of the white line (wouldn't indicate as that may confuse), assess whether the driver/rider is aware of your presence or at the very least is able to control their vehicle well enough to allow safe passage past. Occasionally an ignorant driver will try to block you, shit happens!:mad: When you meet one of these t*$#s if your approach speed is correct they will move their road position to Block you, if You're travelling Too Fast this manoever will occur whilst you're alongside them!

Quite agree there's a lot of poorly thought out road markings/furniture out there, there's numpties in every walk of life sadly, you just have to adapt your riding! :blink:
