satnav

After driving to newcastle and back this weekend i can no longer contain my irritation with those mutton brained bell ends who bung their fucking sat nav right in the middle of their fucking windscreen. The windscreen is there for you to see through so you can drive safely, not for you to stick a fucking great sat nav in the middle and make a huge blind spot you gormless pig ignorant fuckwits.

Indeed

it's very annoying. Whenever I need the satnav in the car I always lob it down on my right hand side, right in the corner of the windscreen. It obstructs too much of my view if it's in the middle! Can't understand how people drive with it there.

Funnily enough

I've always thought of the right hand side being a bit of a no no due to obscuring vision of traffic from the right at roundabouts, junctions etc. although my previous sat navs were too bulky to go in that area and  had to be horizontal in landscape position rather than vertical in portrait mode because that was how display was.

I was though driving a 4x4 pickup truck though, so being higher up and having a large bonnet in front changes the line of sight and view obstruction parameters a little, also like most of who ride/have ridden bikes, I tend to move my head more to see everything and avoid blindspots.
However....I have seen a Peugeot 207 with a bracket big enough for a tablet or laptop attached to the windscreen  that would considerably reduce visibility, possibly that was intended for a lorry and at dash top level?

smoto5,

I tuck it right down near the dash so it obscures maybe an inch of the road (relatively speaking); my vision is much less obscured in that corner than it is when it's in the middle of the wscreen.

Now I've been out and checked

the stuff I use now, (smartphone in a universal windscreen/dash mount) and what I used to use, (dedicated fairly sizeable sat navs/pocket pc in specific windscreen and dash mounts) I can see that in neither truck or car have they been blocking vision, sitting with top line of device only a little way above the line of the front end of bonnet, didn't think mine were a problem as I've always tried to put them as low to the dash top as possible and as far forward as possible :smile

So I take it that Ian probably means specifically the numpties with it stuck just below rear view mirror, in effect bullseye right in the very centre of the screen  think I got wrong end of stick there a bit  shows how a thread can make you think a bit though eh? :smile

Your right, there were lots of the cabbages with the sat nav about 2 inches under the rear view mirror making a huge blind spot.

I was discussing this with a mate at work today and he reckon's it's illegal to mount anything within the arc of the windscreen wipers. This isn't a crusade on my part, just a personal dislike.Along with phone users, lane hoggers, tailgaters and most other motorists. Most of whom I can completely ignore when Im on the bike.
