Michael Laverty shocked at prototype/CRT speed gap

Michael Laverty reckons of the biggest surprises he got during an impressive MotoGP debut in Malaysia last week was the speed difference between factory prototype machinery like Honda’s RC213V and the production-based CRT bikes. The Irish rider produced one of the most impressive performances of last week’s Sepang showdown when he set the 15th best time and finished third best CRT...

WCM

The WCM did have some parts interchangble with an R1 but it wasn't many. Plus it was banned in the end anyway because at the time you were only allowed a certain percentage of road parts and the WCM engine exceeded the limit.

CRT's

should be banned from Moto gp. The speed and performance difference is too much. Well,I guess we'll just have t o wait 'til next year! Ciao

Another way of looking at it

Here's an interesting article on the subject by Mat Oxley:

The more things change, the more they stay the same, it would seem.

You sure Eddy?

Espargaro is ahead of two of your beloved Ducati's after the Sepang test. Do we ban Ducati too?

Ciao, ciao!

Thanks for the link ColonelClaw

Thinking outside the box puts a different perspective on the whole situation.

The thing that bothers me is the seemingly natural promotion of fast riders from Moto2 by-passing the best of CRT for the factory rides.  Seems to me that the CRT winner should get his chance. Initially Dorna said that CRT would not create a championship 'within' a championship - but that's exactly what happened.    As it stands anyone entering the world of CRT is hitting a brick wall.   IMO CRT is a grid-filling exercise consisting of wannabees and falling stars.

@saturn

Completely agree. I don't understand why Aleix Espargaro didn't get one of the satellite rides this year. He's now proved he's as good as Bautista (in my opinion).

Thinking outside the box Saturn?

Hardly. It's simply a matter of knowing your GP racing history.

Wak1309. The Blata V6 engine never even made it onto the dyno according to Peter Clifford.

CRT's will be dead 2014. There may be a couple of 'official' ART's but I cannot see tuned Beemer's and Kwacka's on the grid 2014.

Proddy racers may be the stable future of MotoGP. The world of TZ's, RS's and RG's was not a bad one.

A little of topic but...

Thanks for the insight Lav. Good effort in Sepang. PS. Rossi is the greatest, Stoner is a crybaby, Spies is a Mummys boy and Nostro is the most annoying ThunderC#nt I've ever had the displeasure of engaging with. So na na nana na
