whatever you get...

it'd be best to change them as a pair.

I've mixed Tyres before

got to say i never felt comfortable having mixed tyres, almost like they were working against each other! willing to accept it might be a mental block, but then riding a bike is about confidence! just get anothe BT23 until you need to change both tyres, then try the Avons.

Never had Avons but they did have a good rep back in the 90's

Mismatched tyres

I replace tyres as they're needed and buy whatever's available at the right price and good enough for the situation. Generally this means I've ran mis-matched tyres for a fair amount of my time and for general road use there's no problem. I've taken mis-matched tyres on to track days with no mishaps and at fair paces. From my point of view the insistence of matched pairs plays in to the hand of tyre manufacturers but is a somewhat bogus claim.

Just get used to the feel of the tyres and ride within their limits

TYRES

Why the big issue? There`s sports / sports touring /and touring tyres, with umpteen different speed ratings, also from dual to triple compound and from supple / to stiff side walls.

At the end of the day the front needs more grip (stoppping as well) than the rear because the front has lighter pressure on it than the rear.

Sports front (any make same rating) and sports/ touring rear is ok by me.
